The Master Classes and our online Cafe Le Brain being run by Dementia Alliance International as part of our activities for Dementia Awareness Month 2014, have been a huge success. It's already Day 19 of Dementia Awareness Month 2014, in which time we have achieved a lot.
For September 2014, DAI has been offering weekly Master Classes. Importantly, they are specifically for people with dementia, taught by people with dementia. They are offered over the Internet and are free to attend (donations welcome).
Having the lived experience of dementia discussed and shared, by those of us living with dementia is not only helpful for others diagnosed with dementia, but for anyone working in the sector. It is truly only through this expression that others can fully know what it is like to live with dementia, and what the impact of things like the conversation with our doctor can possibly be.
The links are to the first three recordings of Master Classes 1, 2 and 3 are here:
September 3/4: I’ve Just Been Diagnosed. What’s Next?
September 10/11: My Conversation with My Doctor.
September 17/18: Advocacy and Speaking Out (link to be provided ASAP).
We have Master Class 4 and a Webinar still to present next week, and I have once again included the links to register below.
Still to be presented:
September 24: My Conversation with My Family. Click here for class times, class description, and to register.
September 23 and 26th: A Meeting of the Minds – Dispelling the myths of dementia. Register here for the USA on 23 September and Register here for the one in the Australian time zone on 26 September.
Please do join us for this special A Meeting of The Minds next week. If you are based in Australia or New Zealand, or know people who are, then ask them to consider attending the first event ever to be repeated in that time zome, being hosted by two Board members, Kate Swaffer and Leo White. We hope to start running an online Australian Café Le Brain very soon.
