Last month marks one year since Dementia Australia launched a groundbreaking podcast created by people living with dementia, Hold the Moment: https://youtu.be/Bm7nzciUukE
The podcast offers comfort, courage and connection for anyone impacted by dementia — as well as those who want to better understand the condition or who simply value authentic, lived experiences.
It was developed by people living with dementia and is hosted by Jim Rogers, who lives with younger onset dementia and journalist Hamish Macdonald, whose father has dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s.
Throughout the episodes Jim and Hamish explore with people living with dementia, carers and health experts the experiences of being diagnosed, managing sleep disturbance and hallucinations, travelling, staying active, managing relationships and much more.
Their stories are honest, raw, heartwarming and at times heartbreaking.
“I felt very lonely after my dementia diagnosis. It’s pretty scary, scary territory,” Mr Rogers said.
“Being able to hear about others’ experiences in a positive way on a podcast like this would have been an amazing thing for me when I was diagnosed.”
You can follow it wherever you listen to podcasts – Spotify, Apple and others.
It is also available at www.dementia.org.au/podcast and on YouTube here.
A heartfelt thank you to Dementia Australia for sponsoring our work and for creating this powerful podcast, ensuring the voices of people living with dementia are heard in Australia and beyond.
