Matthew Baumgart: "HOW ADVOCATES CAN CHANGE GOVERNMENT POLICY"
Published: Friday, October 7th 2016

Recently we were privileged to have Matthew Baumgart, who is the Senior Director of Public Policy for the Alzheimer’s Association, present to our supporters and members. In 2011, the U.S. federal government provided $448 million for Alzheimer’s research. By 2016, that amount had more than doubled to $991, and the U.S. Congress is considering up to another $400 million increase for 2017. How did it happen? What factors changed the trajectory of Alzheimer’s research funding? What role did advocates play?

Matthew answered those questions and more. In the United States, the Alzheimer’s Association – and its more than 600,000 advocates across the country – led the effort to boost research funding. Baumgart will share the keys to success and how grassroots advocacy can succeed in changing government policy – in both research and care. Thank you Matthew.
