DAI is proud to celebrate our board member, Hom Shrestha, who has received a Certificate of Honor for the 2024 Publication of the Year Award from the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART) and the Health Policy Professional Interest Area (PIA).

This recognition was presented at the 2025 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) held in Toronto, Canada, from July 27–31, 2025.

Hom’s award-winning research paper, titled “Traditional Healing and Medicine in Dementia for Indigenous Populations in North America, Australia, and New Zealand: Exploring Culturally-Safe Dementia from a Global Perspective,” was published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia on October 16, 2024 (DOI: 10.1002/dad2.12620).

This important work explores how traditional healing practices and Indigenous worldviews can inform culturally safe approaches to dementia care. It represents a vital step toward ensuring that dementia research and care are inclusive, respectful, and grounded in diverse cultural contexts.

DAI extends our warmest congratulations to Hom for this outstanding achievement and for helping to amplify the voices, wisdom, and lived experiences of Indigenous communities around the world.
